Have you ever wondered how I make Dreamers Ink? Well, I made a video showing you how it’s done. This assumes you know how to build sets, take pictures, and process them aka: resizing. This is the assembly process of comicking. I recreate the following comic using the most recent techniques I’ve come up with. To make the 15 panel comics follow the same way, just 15 instead of three. I didn’t make an exact copy of this comic. They were made nearly a year apart. Enjoy.

I’ve been thinking about putting up the original comics for the 153rd which was called “Freedom Fighters”, a totally G.I. Joe ripoff. I was 13 at the time and my drawing skills were more on the less refined stage. In all, I think there are 45 comics including the big graphic novel. There were 5 series which were almost planned out. By the time series 5 came along, the tone was set and the drawings were getting better. Still didn’t have that pesky story telling down. All the covers are at the end of this article from issue #1 to the “Zehnn Doctrine” graphic novel, which is the updated version done in 2006 based on the original.

Okay, if you are reading this you know that I’ve changed the name of the comic. The reason is simple, Genuine Draft was a story set in the universe, it was never intended to be the main title. I didn’t like the orignal name of the comic which is how it became Genuine Draft. I’ve been thinking aboot a re-branding since late summer of 2010. I’m still working on a direction for the comic. Something different, yet keeping it the same. The main storylines will continue. Burgatory, The 153rd, Bob’s adventures, and the single comics.

Why Dreamers Ink? Simple, it’s the web address. 10 or 11 years ago, I bought the domain DreamersInk.com to start a web design business. Dreamers Ink was the name I used when doing graphic arts for people. It started in 1995 or 1996 when I got my first Mac, scanner, printer, and copy of Photoshop. I did small stuff like logos and letter heads. It paid for my internet access.

I went to school to learn how to make web sites and fix computers. When I was about to graduate, I bought the domain Dreamersink.com and put together a site. I made a few contacts then the internet bubble collapsed and the big firms that didn’t do single pages, family, church, or small sites found themselves needing business and they went from sending the small stuff to independant designers to taking anything they could get. I was out of business with in 6 months.

I decided to keep the domain and use it for whatever I fancy. It’s hosted my other creations under the JMS Entertainment name for many years, it’s still here somewhere. Once I got in to comicking again, I used it to show the world. After thinking about it, I figured Dreamers Ink was a suitable name for the comic.

But what about the comic? It will still be brick based, I may show the old Life Is A SitCom strips that happens to be what Bob and Burgatory are based on. The biggest, noticable difference will be the update schedule. Instead of daily updates, the comic will get a single update. Right now it will be on Wednesdays, with the weekends for the single panel. The thought behind this has to do with the longform comics I tend to do. Currently I do 3 panel comics 5 days a week. The new single page will be 15 panels 1 day a week. Same amount of comics, just less days. This should help make the longform comics easier to follow. I plan on converting all the older comics to this new format eventually…

I have some new ideas for the comic as well. I’m just not sure how I can get it to work. Just keep reading.

I am a user of Bricklink.com, in fact it was a few days ago I recieved my most recent purchase from a store owner. I don’t remember how I found Bricklink, most likely through a forum, I was glad I did. I haven’t wasted money on eBay since. Being able to compare prices from various independent sellers is a great way to shop for those little must have parts.

Today there was an “Important Announcement” noted at the top of the page. I clicked the link and found out that Daniel Jezek died. I had heard of him and that he was the founder of Bricklink, but really didn’t know much about him. But he’s helped many fans of the little plastic bricks make dreams come true. I thank him for his creation of Bricklink. A pioneer in web based business, in my opinion, that made getting those parts needed to finish the perfect build much easier.

That’s right, Year-3 begins on October 14th. What awesome stuff will be coming up? Well the current “Unlubricated Anal Probing” storyline goes for quite awhile, to give you an idea I am writing this post on 9-30-2010, where the boys are camping. Which officially is at the begining of the UAP storyline. I have enough of the story filmed to get it in to January 2011. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Yes I use the term, stuff, a lot. Always have I think. Anywho, I’ve been pouring through 2 Terabytes of harddrives trying to find sosme of my old comics that haven’t be messed with. Little success. It seems as if I managed to not keep a high res version of much stuff. I want to start at the begining basically and eventually have every comic I have online. It will be done by date of original publication. So the first one would be in 1984 and the rest of non-Genuine Draft would be either 2005 or 2006 depending on where it’s stored at. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
