153rd - Offworld Mission No.116 to No.123

Strip #116 Updated On 2/6/09
As we see here, Grudgel has taken over Rose’s office and made himself at home. Grudgel was the last name of a girl who broke my heart in high school. Out of bitterness, I created the villian for my character, (Samson) in my stories. They have many encounters that cause more problems. A lesson on how a good bad guy can keep the story going.

F-1, and F-2, the guys in suits. Generic Foundation guys who report back and forth to someone higer. Jonny is getting ready for a mission that was mentioned way back in strip #94 and #95.

Operation: Firefly. Need I say more?

F-1 and F-2’s dialouge is interchangeable. Which is what’s good about generic characters whose main purpose is to give information and move the story. While putting these strips together I was listening to old Webcomic Beacon episodes, the one on was the 1st brainstorming issue and they were discussing how boring it was for them to be stuck in the same location for a comic. It’s easy to write a single location, and filming it I was running out of angles. The set only has 2 removable walls. They could be removed but are walls for other sets. It’s a learning process.

Get on to the mission! Jonny’s ready. He’s not in the gear I wanted, but I couldn’t find it or the posibility of it being buried under tons of bricks was preventing me from looking for it. Time for a Bricklink search.

I had the hardest time coming up with a “transmission” balloon. The pointy star type wasn’t working the way I wanted. So, I tried the method shown and was okay with it. I do the Comic in Illustrator for speed and ease. In these cases I think my tablet and Photoshop would give me what I want better.

The Stargate. Not the most detailed but I like it. There’s also a white one for “Off world” that is built. The puddle is made from scrapbooking paper that is water looking. It looks better than digital, the reflection on the left side wall is a benefit of practicle effects. I love the 3rd panel he just looks disappointed at the outcome.

Strip #123 Updated On 2/13/09
Another 3rd panel I love. It was really simple to do. I took three of my robots, put them in formation at the front of a large grey baseplate. The camera is on a tripod so I just moved the baseplate to where I wanted and got the blurred superclose up like I wanted. The hard part was keeping the baseplate’s back in picture. There’s a castle that would have been in frame otherwise.
CSI: Rimminion No.124 to No.145

Strip # 124 Updated On 2/14/09
Here we go, CSI:Rimminion. Okay I know they are in the city of Fairview, but Rimminion just works better. Jessica Angel, it isn’t the name I was going to use originally, I combined 2 characters I have that are named Jessie and Angela from a line of stories I have that interact with all of the stories I have plotted out that I am basing this comic on. She’s made up of Indiana Jones set minifigs.

I watch a lot of CSI and NCIS along with other cop shows and they all have one thing in common, the cororner is a bit off in the head. The voice I hear from Qurik is “Ducky” from NCIS. The alley is actually a very big set. It uses a lot of my wall pieces.
