Genuine Draft: Year 1
Page No.15

Strip # 196 Updated On 4/27/09
Get ready for battle and get on with the mission. Storm and Clone troopers are my 3rd most populated army behind my Knights and Skellies. FYI.

Hmmm? A robot? A cyborg? What are they? I haven't decided but I'm getting close to figuring it out.

Strip # 198 Updated On 4/29/09
I'm not sure if I noticed the fallen storm trooper in the 3rd panel when I set up the comic or not originally. It's been a while.

Ilike the way these Solo scenes looked. It was an experiment in how to make the comic. I think the orignal strip numbers were in the 30's. So as you can see, there has been some changes. With more on the way.

Number 200! OMG!!!! I'd be more excited but I don't plan on celebrating milestones with specific comics. I'd did mention it with 100 only because when I put it together, it was just random pictures with no script and was numbered according to next in line. I also update daily so 200 isn't anything to get excited about. If weekly, then maybe yeah.

Got my fonts installed and things are starting to get back to normal in comic making. The Battlemark strips are made a bit differently than most of the Genuine Draft comics. For one, there were 35 finished strips which had to be tweeked. I had to add the current number for them, update the copyright stuff. And they were done in Photoshop exclusively. So they are a bit different. It's also why the fonts for the words are smaller. If you noticed, some of the Battlemark strips are really wordy.

Simple Photoshop filter effect time. I used a black and white cloud filter with a 20% opacity for the smoke. Makes it a bit more ominous don't it?

Strip # 203 Updated On 5/4/09
Oh look, smokes cleared up. They way I made comics were, take the pictures insert them in to the frames. Each panel is a layer. Then do the words and balloons. Then add special effects. I'm guessing that around this time I was not enjoying the story and began the idea of scrapping it. In future strips, I had to do some unfinished effects. Which were simple.

Strip # 204 Updated On 5/5/09
For those of you whom have paid some attention, this set has been dissassembled and rebuilt into Tyler's Pudari vessel. I didn't expect to ever need this set again. It's simple to do if needed.

Strip # 205 Updated On 5/6/09
If you go back to 204 you will notice that the font size is larger and different. I'll wait. Okay, these are the current size and settings for the comic. 204 was the last finished comic. I had to take all of the unfished comics, find the scripts, modify the PSD file and put them into the Illustrator Genuine Draft Template. Remove the frame borders cuz they are different and don't match. Then do the lettering and bubbles. It only sounds complicated cuz it was.

Again originally unfinished comic. Just the frame and pictures. No effects or words. I usually take pictures to go with these for the holograms. I take them against a black background as I assemble them so I can get an idea of what may need and make them accurately. But I wasn't really expecting to any shots,so I improvised with what I had. They turned out okay.

I love these pictures. I really began to get an idea of how to frame a shot. I also got used to adjusting the tripod. The most valuable lesson I learned is set making. Keep them simple enough for shooting, it's easier to move the set around instead of the camera. I also learned about raising the set up on a crate to make moving it easier. Not all scenes will work this way, but many of the standards do.

Strip # 208 Updated On 5/9/09
Panel one, supposed to be a rocket. I didn't take the time to set the shot up right in the first place. But this works better I think.

This strip was a pain. Lighting sucks, it's blurry. Not my best work. Oh, and I could barely make out the script, which are hand written. I couldn't tell what was going on and who was talking. This set is actually the back side of the diner. Go through the black door and there you are.
